Applicants must select one of the following placement periods:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Placement One : 1 Dec 2026 \u2013 19 January 2027<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Placement Two : 21 January 2027 \u2013\u00a0 11 March 2027<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Working Schedule<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Approximately 9:30 AM \u2013 6:00 PM<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4\u20135 days per week (shift-based)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The clinic operates 7 days per week throughout the winter season.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There are no public holidays\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please note:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Punctual attendance is essential<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Orientation attendance is mandatory<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Due to the short duration and structured nature of the elective, participants are expected to be available for the entire placement period and requests for leave cannot be accommodated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Learning Objectives<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Participants will have the opportunity to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gain exposure to international healthcare systems and clinical workflows<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Develop cross-cultural communication and patient care skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Observe and assist in the management of acute winter sports injuries<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experience healthcare delivery within a fast-paced seasonal clinic environment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Work alongside multidisciplinary international medical professionals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improve confidence in patient interaction, clinical support, and teamwork<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Clinical Experience &amp; Responsibilities<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students will assist doctors and clinical staff across both the main NIC clinic and the Hirafu Mountain clinic. Due to the nature of the winter season, participants can expect significant exposure to acute snowsport injuries, fracture management, musculoskeletal assessment, urgent care presentations, and travel medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Responsibilities may include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Shadowing physicians during consultations and procedures<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assisting with patient examinations and clerical support<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supporting splinting and basic first aid procedures<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assisting with X-ray positioning and patient preparation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assisting with patient history taking and language support where appropriate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assisting with patient education and process explanations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supporting day-to-day clinic operations within a multidisciplinary team environment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Observing and, where appropriate, supporting patient transport activities under supervision.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please note that responsibilities and clinical exposure may vary depending on patient volume, experience level, and clinic requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Eligibility &amp; Application Requirements<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Applicants must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be senior medical students (final-year level or equivalent)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have completed core clinical rotations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have completed an orthopaedic rotation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have an interest in sports medicine, emergency medicine, and multicultural healthcare<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be comfortable working within a busy international clinical environment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Required application documents:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Curriculum Vitae (CV)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Motivation letter outlining:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>what you hope to learn<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>why you are interested in the program<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how you plan to apply the experience in future practice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Official recommendation letter from your medical school<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vaccination record<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please note:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Seasonal influenza vaccination is mandatory and must be completed at least two weeks prior to arrival.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Program Fee<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A non-refundable program registration fee of \u00a550,000 is required to confirm placement and contribute towards administrative processing, onboarding, and program coordination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Accommodation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>As at 1 July 2026, NIC is unable to offer accommodation for participants in the 2026\/2027 Medical Student Winter Elective.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While we continue to explore accommodation options, applicants must be prepared to source and secure their own accommodation should this become necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please note that Niseko experiences a severe shortage of winter accommodation, and suitable housing can be difficult and expensive to obtain.
