What Is a General Practitioner?
📺 The TV drama “The 19th Chart” has recently brought attention to general practitioners (GPs) in Japan. Did you know? our doctors are general practitioners too!
A general practitioner is part of a relatively new specialty system in Japan. GPs have the “generalist” skills to diagnose and treat across many fields—such as internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery, and dermatology. They serve as the first point of contact when you’re unsure which department to visit, and act as a hub, referring patients to specialists when needed.
Among them, Dr. Moroi and Dr. Ito are also trained as family physicians, focusing on primary care in community clinics.
👨👩👧 Family physicians work closely with individuals and families in the community. They care for patients of all ages—from babies to the elderly—support not only treatment of illness but also prevention of lifestyle diseases, mental health, home care, and even long-term care. They serve as lifelong partners in health, often described as doctors who support you “from cradle to grave.”
Our director often says:
🏀 “I used to play point guard, so I’m good at passing the ball.”
In other words, our mission is to make the best “assists” for our patients.
But it’s not only about assists.
When needed, we also “take the shot” ourselves—making diagnoses and providing treatment directly.
If you’re ever unsure which department to visit, just start with us 😊
As general practitioners (and family physicians), we:
- Provide a trusted first point of contact for any health concerns.
- Assist by connecting you with the right specialists when needed.
- Continue to support you as your primary care doctors even after specialist treatment has finished.
Another unique feature of our clinic is that we also work across diverse fields: aesthetic medicine, sports & exercise medicine, physiotherapy, and fitness.
Some may wonder why a clinic takes on so many areas—but this wide perspective is exactly what general practitioners are trained to bring.
Our mission goes beyond treating illness.
We want to help you live every day healthier, stronger, and more beautiful.
General practitioners are doctors who stay with you “from cradle to grave”—lifelong partners in your health journey.
We’re grateful for your support and look forward to seeing you at NIC.
