A New Challenge in Our 10th Year
Since opening Niseko International Clinic (NIC) in December 2017, Medical Corporation NIC has been providing healthcare services to international visitors, foreign residents, and local community members in the Niseko area.
Looking back, these past nine years have not always been an easy journey.
We have faced many challenges, including a global pandemic, shortages of healthcare professionals, and the unique difficulties associated with a region that experiences significant seasonal fluctuations. However, thanks to the support of our local community, partner organizations, and the dedicated staff who have supported NIC, we have been able to move forward one step at a time.
Over the years, we have expanded our healthcare services in the Niseko resort area by establishing:
2023 – Niseko Wellness Center
2024 – Mountain Clinic Hirafu
As we complete our ninth winter season and enter our tenth year since opening, we are pleased to announce the opening of Sapporo International Clinic (SIC) in the Odori area of Sapporo on July 2nd, 2026.
When we share this news, we are sometimes asked:
“Is Dr. Moroi moving to Sapporo?”
“Is NIC relocating from Niseko to Sapporo?”
Our answer is quite the opposite.
Sapporo International Clinic Is Not About Leaving Niseko
Sapporo International Clinic is not being established to move away from Niseko. Rather, it is being established so that we can continue to support and further develop healthcare services in Niseko.
Through years of providing medical care to international visitors and foreign residents, we have come to recognize the importance of recruiting, training, and retaining healthcare professionals. However, a resort community with significant seasonal fluctuations presents limitations when it comes to long-term staff development and stable employment opportunities for physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
By establishing a year-round medical base in Sapporo, where healthcare demand exists throughout the year, we aim to create a more stable environment for staff development and employment, while bringing that experience and talent back to Niseko.
Sapporo International Clinic Is Our Next Challenge
Because NIC was born in Niseko, our roots will always remain in Niseko.
This new venture in Sapporo is not a step away from Niseko—it is a step that allows us to continue growing and investing in Niseko.
Moving forward, Medical Corporation NIC will continue to embrace the following philosophy:
“Bringing the international healthcare experience cultivated in Niseko to Sapporo, and bringing the people, knowledge, and experience developed in Sapporo back to Niseko.”
With this vision, we will continue building a healthcare system capable of providing high-quality medical services to local residents and to people from around the world who visit Hokkaido.
